New Zealand Glassblower, Katie Brown, has established a remarkable international following for her hot glass creations. Her passion for the material is combined with a keen sense for design, proportions and functionality, creating homeware, sculptural objects and one-off lighting commissions that are also masterpieces.
Based in Whanganui, New Zealand, her aesthetic is inspired by the bold, beautiful and raw natural environment which surrounds her and provides for an amazing lifestyle. Her glass blowing talent and her passion to share her knowledge has led her to teaching in Canada and North America, and exhibit worldwide including Milan, Italy and New York.
Katie's home coupled with the industry of glass and high-end craft, is a major driver for her. As such, she has set up "Brown & Co", a beautifully curated lighting and design store that features blown glass, lighting, printmaking and engraving.
With this new venture, Katie is once again enrolling the community on her back doorstep, creating a space in a stunning purpose-refurbished heritage building for the creative arts to meet. A kids art programme will get the next generation enthusiastic about 'all things creativity', and provide some fun in this vibrant space. Brown & Co. celebrates Katie being a glassblower for over 23 years, and welcomes the next 23 years to come.
